Using Tilcara as a base for day trips has world out really well for us. We had originally planned on spending our last night in Purmamarca but we struggled to find info for bus travel back to Salta from Purmamarca and I was anxious it might not work out, so we cancelled the Purmamarca booking and added an extra night in Tilcara.
So on our last day in Tilcara we needed to travel to Purmamarca to still visit. We caught a local bus at 8:50am as it is meant to be good to see the coloured hills in the morning light.
As we got closer to Purmamarca it started to get very drizzly and mist was hanging around the hills.
We arrived at 9:30 and the rain was light so we decided to take a walk to see the hills. All the guidebooks state that Purmamarca is the prettiest of the towns, but we weren't really feeling it, maybe it was the weather, but it definitely felt way more touristy than Tilcara.
The walk around the coloured hills was very pretty however and we still enjoyed it despite the drizzle. The low clouds actually added a bit of a different look to our pictures, we just had to be careful not to get the camera wet!
After our walk we grabbed a coffee and then caught the 11:15 bus back to Tilcara, we both felt glad that we changed our booking as it was a nice place, but not much else to do!
Back in Tilcara the sun was shining, amazing given it's only a 30 min drive away! So we made the most of it taking photos around town and enjoying the sunshine.
After some late lunch we spent the afternoon back at the room, time for a haircut for Pete and sorting our bags out etc for our big trip to the falls tomorrow.
Around 5 we went out for a few beers and spot of souvenir shopping. I bought a cute llama magnet.
For dinner we decided to go back to La Picadita, I really wanted to try the llama pie and we had loved our dinner there the other night.
Well, we certainly made a great choice, they spoilt us with some nice cheese to have with our wine whilst waiting for dinner, such lovely friendly service!
And, the llama pie was.....Amazing!!!! It seriously was the best meal I've had the whole trip! Served with a salad as well, yummy!!!! We also had a lovely bottle of Malbec, such a nice way to end our 4 days in Tilcara!
We really have enjoyed it here, exploring and trying different things! Definitely a highlight of the trip so far!!
