Again, we slept really well at our hostal and woke up for brekky with time to eat before heading to Humuhuaca.
The mountains were hidden by clouds but the mist soon lifted in time for us to head off to Humuhuaca. The bus left at 10.20am and the trip took around an hour, it literally stopped every 5 mins to pick up or drop someone off, the joys of a local bus!!
Once we arrived in Humuhuaca we too a short stroll into town and proceeded to have a look around. The thing that was apparent was it was quite touristy here, loads of people In tour groups and lots of locals selling their wares, but still, very pretty and some nice sights. We went for a coffee at a cute local cafe, we are really enjoying our coffee breaks whilst on holidays and this cafe was super cute!
It was a really sunny day, great for taking pictures, so a bit more strolling, up to the independence monument taking in a good view of the town.
There is not a huge amount to see in Humuhuaca and we had no desire to pay extra money to travel up to the coloured hills, so decided we would rather eat some lunch! More empanadas of course!!
After lunch we caught the bus back to Tilcara, we had a short pit stop back at the room and then headed off in a taxi to Maimara to see the palette del pintor, more coloured hills. Maimara was super windy and dusty, but we managed to get some good snaps of the hills, Pete climbed to a higher vantage point but I was a little scared as there was no barrier rail in place, I felt sick even watching him climb up and down!
We headed back to Tilcara via taxi and then went for a couple of beers before dinner. We'd had a lot of local cuisine of late so decided to have ravioli tonight which was a fine choice!!
After dinner we grabbed a chocolate from the store, we've not had chocolate for a while so decided on a treat!!
Another great day with fab weather and sights! We are loving getting out and about doing our day trips! It is so much fun!!
Ooh, I forgot to mention today's highlight was meeting a couple of local dogs! They were superb!!!
