We woke up with plans of heading up to the small town of Humuhuaca but it was a little cloudy and cool, so changed plans and decided to visit the Devils throats which is about a 4km hike up hill!
After brekky we set off and managed to find our way to the start of the path. It was not a difficult hike to the top, although not an even path, quite rocky. Once up the top, we then had to go back down into a gorge and then hike towards the waterfall. The stream coming from the falls had to be crossed a number of times, leading to Pete getting wet shoes and me screaming like a girl every time I crossed the stream!
It was great fun though and we took around 1.5 hrs to reach the waterfall, which in itself was quite pretty, but really the fun of it was navigating our way there!
At the falls we took a break and enjoyed watching two dogs play fetch with a rock, no ball for them. I threw the rock a couple of times, they loved it.
We hiked back to town feeling pretty weary and tired by the time we got back.
For lunch we grabbed tortillas from these ladies who cook on a BBQ on the side of the road, tasty at a price of $1.75.
After lunch we were still a little peckish and decided a treat was in order, so enjoyed a lovely coffee with a piece of apple tart, delicious 😋
We headed back to the room to freshen up and then later went out for a beer. It's a funny town Tilcara, it's not super hot here but they still have siesta and not a lot opens until 7pm!
For dinner we visited a nice little restaurant that specializes in local dishes, I had a lentil, chorizo and beef stew, whilst Pete had locro again, another local dish.
We had a fab day and really enjoyed our dinner, washed down with a bottle of wine. So much fun!!
